Drones hit Novorossiysk as oil terminal burns

Overnight from 1 to 2 March 2026, a series of explosions was reported in the Russian city of Novorossiysk in Krasnodar Krai during a drone attack. Mayor Andrei Kravchenko reported a threat from unmanned aircraft and temporary traffic restrictions in the coastal area.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said that 172 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight over various regions of Russia. Local authorities said fires broke out, including within port infrastructure, in the area of the Sheskharis oil terminal. Authorities also reported damage to urban infrastructure, including residential buildings and a childcare facility. According to the authorities in Novorossiysk, five people were injured.

The city also hosts military and logistics infrastructure linked to Russia’s presence in the Black Sea. The Ukrainian side had not commented on reports of the attack at the time of publication.
